J. Crew Maternity August 2010

Still no maternity line from J. Crew, even though there seems to be a market. But you already know that. So here are some Fall pieces that would work for the pregnant form.

Ciel Etoile Sweater, $128. My advice is copy the look with a maternity jeans and a top from somewhere like Target, Motherhood Maternity, or Gap. And as added plus you can wear the sweater after you deliver.

Islington Plaid Poncho, $1195. Think of it as an investment piece. But buy it only if you can see yourself wearing it for a few years.

Flannel Tuxedo Tunic, $78

J. Crew Maternity June 2010

It may seem stupid to spend so much at J. Crew for clothes to wear as maternity clothes. After all you will only be wearing them for a few months. But remember that you want to look and feel your best when you are pregnant. And you can always make some of your money back selling them on eBay. So here are my picks for June.

Mediterranean Silk Gown, $168"

Marin Dress, $128

J. Crew Maternity May 2010

I'm here with another installment of J. Crew pieces that could be used for maternity. Each month this post gets a ton of viewers, so I'll keep it up until no one is reading it or J. Crew finally realizes there is a market and does a maternity line. But until then J. Crew addicts will just have to buy pieces in bigger sizes.
V-neck Lundi Dress. Wear it with a belt around the empire waist line.  $68

Embroidered Siesta Dress. Beware of the fact that the "light as air" in the description probably translates to sheer. $88

Ruched V-neck Dress. $59.50

Drawstring Tank Dress. Drop waisted and knit, what else can you ask for. $55

J. Crew is currently offering 20% off and free shipping on knits and tees. So three of the pieces are cheaper than the prices I have listed. The sale lasts until the 9th of May and can only be used for online purchases.

J. Crew for Maternity April 2010

Since everyone seems to love my posts where I point out which J. Crew pieces could be used for maternity, I am updating it with new pieces for April.
 Shirred Racer Back Gown, $78

There are a couple new colors of the tissue pleated tee, $45.

Luxe Terry Un-Sweatpants. I haven't worn sweats since middle school, so I'm not loving these. But a lot of women live in sweats while they are pregnant. Just wear them pushed under your belly. The slim fit will keep you from looking like a slob.  $59.50

Lena Isle Dress, $59.50

Lilac Showers Shift Dress. I read somewhere that the dress is looser than it seems in the picture. $59.99

When is J. Crew going to realize that there is a real market for maternity. A lot of women are addicted to J. Crew and loathe giving up the brand while they are pregnant.

Heidi Klum's Maternity Collection Available

You can purchase the pieces from Heidi Klum's collections for A Pea In The Pod and Motherhood Maternity now. But sad to say they are only slightly better than Nicole Richie's collection. Some of the basic black pieces are nice, but nothing exciting. And a black maternity unitard for $95 is just stupid. If you're brave enough to pull off that look you can do it at American Apparel and for less. And they don't have a seam running down the center of your belly.

Nicole Richie Maternity Sale

Yesterday when I wrote about Heidi Klum designing for A Pea In The Pod I mentioned that Nicole Richie had designed an earlier collection for the company. Well, the pieces are still available and are on sale. Even better news, the collection is now priced as low as $18.99 and nothing is priced more $79.99.

J.Crew For Maternity

I asked the personal shoppers at J.Crew to recommend some pieces that would work well for maternity. (Not for myself. My chances of getting pregnant are slim to none. I will be spending my winter in skinny jeans.) They were kind enough to respond very quickly with the following suggestions:
  • Slub cotton square neck tee. The soft cotton tee is fitted at the bustline, but loose around the waist. Available in nine colors, and on sale now for $29.50.

  • Saturday Twist Dress. The dress has an empire waist and the knot drapes nicely over a belly. It is available in four colors, $68.

  • Tissue Pleated Top. The top is lightweight cotton and loose throughout the body. $45.

  • The Flutter Scoop Neck Dress. The dress has detailing around the neck, (great for when you are pregnant) and a slight a-line skirt. $78.

I don't understand why J.Crew doesn't do a maternity line. Many of their tops have lovely detailing around the neck, and with a little more fabric around the belly would be perfect. And they have some of the best jeans available. They should really consider it. Women who want something preppy, but nicer than the Gap would flock to them . There is a market for J.Crew maternity.

Nicole Richie Maternity For A Pea In The Pod

Nicole Richie's maternity collection is online at a Pea In The Pod. The items cost $55-148. I hate to say I am rather disappointed, the clothes look now different than those you can get a Target for a third of the price. I was expecting something with a little more edge.

But the prices do have a justification. It is high end A Pea In The Pod, and are in line with the rest of their prices. And everything seems to be made right here in the good ole US of A.. And American labor is expensive
